CNREC Formally Launched in Beijing

China National Renewable Energy Centre (CNREC) declared its formal launch on February 23rd, 2012 in Beijing, China, which will assist China's energy authorities in renewable energy policy research and implementation, and provide technical support in industrial coordination and management.

The center was established by the National Energy Bureau with the support of the National Development and Reform Commission. The major missions of CNREC are to plan renewable energy development strategy, plan and research policies, organize and implement national demonstration projects, coordinate to draft industrial standards, collect and analyze industrial data and information, and carry out international cooperative programs.

Mr. Liu Qi, the Deputy Administrator of NEA, pointed out that the establishment of CNREC was necessary to achieve the goal of renewable energy development and help set up the system and organization guarantee mechanism of the renewable energy scale-up development. The advanced experience of EU and US has already proved the essentiality of a national institution to improve renewable energy technology and industrial management for a well-functioning renewable energy industrial system.

Based on the international advanced experience and management, CNREC will work closely with national energy expertise, institutions and enterprises by making full use of their advantages, establish a coordinative working mechanism which is in line with the industrial development and management requirement, integrate the resources of policies and market, realize resource sharing and advantage compensation, concentrate on addressing the major problems of renewable energy's scale-up development in China, and finally enhance the development and utilization of renewable energy.

Representatives from National Energy Administration (NEA), National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), Ministry of Finance, (MOF), Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) as well as Danish Ministry of Trade and Investment, Danish Ministry of Climate, Energy and Building, Royal Danish Embassy in Beijing (RDE), National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), Spanish Energy Agency, and Spanish National Renewable Energy Centre (CENER) attended the meeting.

Mr. Liu Qi also met with the delegation led by Ms. Pia Olsen Dyhr, Minister of Danish Ministry of Trade and Investment. Both sides exchanged their views on further deepening cooperation in renewable energy. (Reporter: Feng Ya)
